Hoisin Sauce

Hoisin sauce (Chinese: pinyin: literally "seafood sauce"), also called plum sauce or Chinese barbecue sauce is a famous Chinese dipping sauce for dishes including Peking Duck and spring rolls. It is similar to the sweet noodle sauce (užµ‘¬) but has the added ingredients of garlic, vinegar, and chiles. Additionally, it tastes less pungent than the sweet noodle sauce.

Hoisin is pronounced hoy-sin. The name plum sauce is a misnomer as there are no plums in hoisin sauce.
